| 2+ years of not baking macarons or giving classes; needless to say I was apprehensive about how today would go…(for any macaron bakers out there, we all know the stress that these little pretties can create!)
I think you could say we did a pretty good job!
It was so fun to be back making my signature ‘cookie’ and it was lovely meeting the lady behind @the.tart.shop.

If you’ve been here a while you'll know I have a custom on Tisha B'av to bake fresh Challahs. I've always connected with the mitzvah of baking Challah.
Perhaps it's because my middle name is Sara, and Sara Imanu is the first mentioned woman in the Torah with the Mitzvah of Challah. (She was also blessed with the special miracle of her bread staying fresh from week to week)
Maybe it's because there is nothing better than sitting down to homemade Challah on a Friday night? (how much more so after a fast?)
Or perhaps it's the opportunity for us woman to connect with our Creator, one of our three special Mitzvahs.

Whatever the reason may be, for the last 10 years, I've always pushed myself to perform this special Mitzvah (however tired and hungry) and to use the precious time to Daven & beg Hashem to end our sadness & exile.
Today of all days we connect with the loss of the Beis Hamikdosh and our own personal and community losses too.
Because we all descend from Sara Imanu, the miracles of Sara's bread remain accessible to us today.
When we properly perform this Mitzvah, and bake the bread with this deeper understanding, we acknowledge Hashem as the source of blessing and physical abundance in our home.
May this be the last year of tears, and may we all see the final redemption speedily in our days!

My Challah recipe is below. I will be doubling it for the purpose of Hafroshas Challah.

Challah Recipe: 🍞

Ingredients:
75 grams fresh yeast
3 eggs
1.5 kg regular or wholemeal flour
3 cups warm water
1 & 1/4 cups sugar
3/4 cup oil
1 tablespoon salt
(If you would like to take challah with a Brocha, double recipe)

Method:
Crumble yeast at the bottom of mixer
Add sugar
Add 2 cups of warm water
Add 1/4 bag of flour, mix altogether for 10 mins on low-should slightly bubble
Add salt into the bag of flour, mix until incorporated.
Add eggs & oil, mix
Add flour slowly
Add last cup of water gradually
Transfer to a large slightly oiled bowl
Cover dough, let rise for 1 & 1/2 hours
Plait and transfer to loaf pan
Let rise for another 40 mins
Wash with egg & any toppings (I use seeds and nuts)
Bake at 190 (350f) for 30-40 mins.
